I have just set up a community tank and trying to plan what fish and
how many to add. So far its a 20 gal tank. there are 7 neon tetras
and 2 rummy nose. What else should I add and why. Looking for
suggestions. Give me your list for this 20 gal tank. Im open to
looking at what others have done.
Thanks Tom

First thing's first, unless the tank has completely cycled don't add
anything (!) If you don't know what the cycle is then Google for it & read
up on it as soon as possible.
If you are already past that stage then I'd suggest you think about a "clean
up crew" to start with. Maybe some Corry Cats, some small loaches (not
clowns), Ottos or a Bristlenose Cat or two. You could also add a few shrimp.
If you can find any Simaese Algae eaters then buy two. They will do the best
job of any fish at keeping the Algae at bay.
Once you have done that there won't be a whole lot of room left. If you are
going to add more you could look at some more small Tetras (Lampeyes, Black
Phantoms, Bleeding hearts etc) or may some small Gouramis - but really not
very many if at all.

Exactly as Iain said, but one thing, rummy nosed and neon don't really
schoal together so your rummy nosed need two or three more if you can spare
the space.
I have 9 rummy nose, 5 neons and 5 rose, and the neons and rose sometimes
sit in the same area of the tanks amongst the plants, whereas the rummy nose
are constantly on patrol touring the tank, and don't mingle with the others.

As others have said, you need to be careful about putting anything in
while the tank is cycling. How long have you had the tank, and what
type of filter do you have?
Neons do NOT do well during cycling, so if this is a brand new tank, I
recommend returning them to the store before they die.

a tank, and what can go in it.

Hi
What sort of water do you have? What is the PH ?
What is the hardness?
Do you have facilities to move fish on somewhere else or do your
fish need to fit a 20 gall when all mature?
what shape is the tank? Long/Thin or some other shape?
What sort of filtration do you have?
What type of substrate do you have?
Do you want real plants?
Do you want a couple of specimen fish to breed or do you want
small
shoaling type fish?
It has a lot of bearing on the selection
