Gravel vacuum recommendations sought

My tank's a whole 8 weeks old, and all the occupants are happy for now,
but its starting to build up a layer of poop and uneaten food.

Anyone have suggestions for a brand or type of gravel vacuum? Anything I
should avoid?

Avoid buying a gravel cleaner and start feeding less. When the food says
"Only as much as the fish will eat in 5 minutes" it means it, so there
should be no uneaten food. There is no Poop build up in any of my tanks
*ever*. I use a gravel cleaner occasionally when doing a water change but
that is all.

Do a search for DIY gravel vac if you want some cheap alternatives
You also can buy a waterbed kit filler for anoter good alternative.
The main braind I see out there is the python but way overpriced in my
opionion

Just bought a cheap-o gravel filter at wally world for about $8 or so and it
suits me fine.

I've found out that if you leave the siphon in the same spot in some gravel
for a few seconds longer, it really pulls up lots of stuff deep down in the
substrate.

I then just have a 3-gallon bucket that I use to refill after doing a water
change.

I guess I just don't see a point in spending lots of money on all this
equipment when this hobby is supposed to be fun, enjoyable, and relaxing.
Still I'm amazed how much I've personally spent on all of my setups over the
years.
