I thought _all_ fish were cold-blooded, in the usual sense of the
definition? (ie, they do not regulate their own body temperature, it
fluctuates according to the temperature of their environment)

that is poikilothermic.
cold WATER fish have an absolute requirement for cold water to spawn, live. they
generally have a very high oxygen demand that cannot be met in warmer water. Ingrid

I think you will find that they are coldblooded. That does not mean
that they like cold water though. Perhaps you mant Ingrid that they
are not cold water fish.

I think thats what she meant. Yeah they aren't coldwater fish, but are typically
labelled as such.

Under ice? 10 C doesn't seem too cold for freezing weather! So that
layer of ice on the pond is quite a good insulator.

I think 10C is at the moment, rather than when the pond is iced over...
