SNAILS!

Hi,

I have a planted freshwater tank and I used to have a real big problem with
snails in my tank and they were ruining all my plants but I got some clown
loaches and the problem seemed to go away whilst I had them but they got
white spot and the treatment was unsuccessful and they died :o( and now the
snail problem is back! Can anyone tell me any methods of removing snails
that are effective because I have been removing about 6 at a time several
times a day and it is driving me crazy! Also what fish could I get (apart
from clown loaches because I decided to get different fish after they died)
that are effective at keeping snail numbers down? (I have a 2.5 foot (120
litre) tank with 2 dwarf gouramis, 5 swordtails and 8 neon tetras.)

Clowns are famous for white spot - they also die with many
medications - raising the temp usually does the trick if all the
other water paramters are ok

I like clowns and would try again but.......

OK... take one small plastic soda bottle
take a small nail, heat it up and make loads of holes in the
bottom of the bottle

Insert some stones and pieces of cucumber

put in tank with bottle mouth level with gravel

Leave 1 day...snails will be sitting on cucumber - lift out
bottle, water drains thru holes and u have a bottle of snails!!

try courgette/zuchinni/aubergine/lettuce and see what your
snails will go for

Thanks for that I will try that. I might just end up getting some more clown
loaches if that doesn't work but thanks for the help.

I have been very lucky and never had a disease in my tanks, but as I
understand it's because clowns are scaleless fish this makes them more
susceptible to medications, and to diseases. I have read that with scaleless
fish it's recommended to use half dosages on medication. Someone else might
be able to give more info.
