My young son has a tank with only snails. The snails have been laying
eggs like mad, which is to be expected. However, a few days ago I saw
his favourite snail floating 1/2 up the tank with eggs stuck on its
shell, or coming out of the shell, hard to say. I thought the snail
was dead, but I saw him moving. The snail does seem to be in
different places each time I look at him, but he is never clinging to
anything (like he used to) and the eggs are always on him. I am not
sure if he moves or is just buffeted around. This morning, he looked
like he was floating about 1/4 of an inch above the bottom of the tank
holding about 5 pieces of the substrate. Does anyone know what is
going on here?

What kind of snail are you talking about, if the snail in question is an
apple snail, the eggs should be removed, they will not live under water.
If the snail is moving then I would not worry.

Here is a good link

It is normal behavior. At least that was what I read. Snails are lazy.

Snails are faster in warmer tanks. Slower in cooler tanks. I have alot
of aopple snails and I would not describe them as lazy at all. If they
are in a proper tank with proper Ph not less than 7.0 higher which is
better, GH and KH just like any other animal they thrive and are very
active.
