View Full Version : Help! Question for Ingrid - Blood at Base of Fin

I've got a 4" lionhead goldfish that has a problem with bleeding at the
base of one of its ventral fins. It started out as a very small
clear-like blister emanating from the tip of the fin. Looked like a tiny
balloon that would get bigger and bigger until it popped. Then a day or
2 later it would start over again. I fed Medikoi (though it was kind of
old, I admit) for 14 days. It seemed to get better so I stopped. But
after about a week the fish started bleeding near the base of the same
fin. Similar type of blister but at the base instead of the tip and it
would fill with blood. I popped the blister to release the fluid. Then
tried treating -- not all at the same time -- with a course of potassium
permanganate (no effect) in a separate bucket, Melafix (seemed to offer
temporary improvement), Quickcure (no effect). I think my fish has some
sort of systemic bacterial infection but can't be sure of what type --
aeromonas/pseudomonas? Columnaris? Vibrio? Need your advice.
PS: I bought a new bag of Medikoi and started feeding yesterday. Tank
temp is 74F, ammonia and nitrite are undetectable.

Jo Ann says "I think it is parasitic tell her to try peroxide (dip) and neo
(neosporin) plus med food (medicated food like romet)
Jo Ann's PEROXIDE DIP for Goldfish
1 part 3% peroxide (like in drug store)
9 parts water
dip for 10 SECONDS ONLY
USES:
this kills flukes, both gyros and dacs
it does not kill much of anything else
http://www.mu.edu/~buxtoni/puregold/disease/disease.htm look at treatment for
topical treatment with neo

Thanks. I'll try the peroxide dip. Gotta buy a tube of Neosporin creme.
