No, I've never heard that myself, but that doesn't mean it isn't a fact to the
rest of the world. Perhaps the two of us are in the dark. <Grin> My Devil's
Hand closes up for a few days, then opens up again bigger than before. Keep an
eye on it for a few days, and check and double check all your water parameters
to make sure all is normal.

Has your flow / current changed at all as pertains this coral?

Thanks for the reply Marc. Devil's hand is still closed (5 days running now) - I'm
worried. Tested water the other night. Ammonia, Nitrite, Nitrate, Phosphate, all
zeros. pH ranges from about 8 to 8.2 daily. Alk 10, Ca 340, SG 1.025, temp
80.5-82.5 daily. I haven't seen the fungia open up yet either, though I admit I
haven't been on flashlight patrol for over a week (worked some weird hours the last
week or so), so I don't know what it's doing at night.

Water motion hasn't changed. Still returning about 1000-1100 gph through two
returns, plus randomly turn 2 maxijet 1200s on and off during the day. Hmmmmm. I'm
tempted to return the fungia to the fish store and see if they will hold it for a
while to see of the lobo comes back. Or, I could put the fungia into the Q tank,
but I know I don't have the lighting to maintain it there. decisions decisions...

You know, it doesn't matter how perfect we make the environment, we'll see happy corals
and unhappy ones in the same tank. Odds are we are mixing species from different zones
of the world.

My 55g overall looks pretty nice, but my Devil's Hand, the feather dusters, and the new
purple goni are all rather depressed looking. Everything else is fluffy and happy.

My 29g looks very nice to everyone else, but my Colt has withered quite a bit from red
mushroom-poisoning. I finally got it away from those things and it should recover
completely. The BTA looks good for a number of hours, then horrible. However, it has
been doing that for months now... must be habitually trying to freak me out. I'm used
to it. <grin>

When my leathers retract for seemingly long periods I "storm" it with blasts
from a kitchen baster. It stimulates the leather and helps sloff off any
shedding. Within a day or two it expands out.

Sam.... thanks for the advice. I blasted the lobophytum last night with my handy
multi-purpose turkey baster, and son-of-a-gun tonight I saw some of the
autozooids popping out for the first time in a week. I looked closer at the
coral, and saw a thin coating of slime or mucus or something, so, back to the
turkey baster for another blast... So now, as I prepare for bed, I'm excited to
see what it will be looking like tomorrow morning.
