live rock growth

[Skipp]

I have some black shiny things that look like black pearls growing on my
live rock.Can someone tell me what they are???

If you look carefully, chances are they aren't black but actually dark
green. In that case they are bubble algae, a nuissance algae. If you pop
one of those bubbles the spores will spred all over the tank. An emerald
crab is great for removing those.

ahhh, i have a tankful of those, and dont consider them nuiscance, but
rather part of a growing ecosystem. I think your talking about bubble alage
too. It is green, and shiny, almost rainbowish reflections. I will get an
emarald crab now becuase theres plenty of food for him! haha. by the way,
if you picture my tank with alot of nuiscance stuff, thats not the case,
there is no aptasia, lol. I do like the greel algaes sparseely spread
around the tank, they add nice features to the reef and obviously provide
food for other creatures.

And emerald crabs, do they eat them as a whole thing or they also
pop one of those and spread the spores all over the tank ?

Not sure how they eat them, but they do successfully remove it from a tank
however they do it. I had some appear in my tank once and was actually
hoping it would spread a bit since it isn't all that bad looking in small
amounts. The crab found the patch and that was the least I saw of it.

Those are referred to as Sailor Eyeballs or Valonia. They
can be plucked out gently or siphoned out, or you can do as
other suggested and get some baby emerald crabs.

When those crabs get larger, keep an eye on them because
they can do some damage to other things, reportedly.
