Hiya
My fish have just gone through a SEROUS ick infection and I somehow
managed to cure it with some protozin. My uncle says I should add some
salt to my tank (coarse salt) and I have heard it is a good idea but
how much should I add? The tank is 45 gallons / 170 litres????
Thanks
Paul

Salt really isn't necessary to add to a freshwater tank but the normal
dosing for salt when not using it for medicinal purposes is 1
teaspoon per gallon. Aquarium salt or non-iodized table salt can be
used and should be dissolved in some tank water before being added
slowly to the tank.
Remember that salt doesn't evaporate and can only be removed through
water changes.

What kind of fish do you have? Some fish DO NOT tolerate salt very well.
