basically, get the salt out, add some epsom salts and run the heat up to 84oF, feed
antibiotic food. see the pictures I took of a fish with severe dropsy. be sure to
read ALL the information on treating dropsy. dropsy is a symptom, not a disease in
and of itself. it is treatable, altho many people say it isnt.

it isnt a disease, and there is nothing in petsmart that is likely to save a fish
with real dropsy. Ingrid

I've seen it in the store, never had to use it. I had 2 gold fish for 4
years, also other tropical fishes, Betas, Gouramies, they never had dropsy!

Treatment of Dropsy:
It is difficult to treat, but in some cases where the problem is due to
bacteria, if detected early enough, it can be treated. This is why you
should closely examine the fish's environment for a bacterial problem, and
deal with the source of the problem as a part of treatment and preventative.
By the time the scales begin to raise, however, it is very fatal to the
fish. Salt baths can help to draw the fluid out of the fish. A variety of
medications can be purchased that treat dropsy, which sometimes occurs due
to an internal bacterial problem. Medications for external bacterial
problems only will not be effective for this problem.
Gouramies and Cyprinids are highly susceptible to this disorder.

salt baths will actually make it worse. yes, there is treatment for dropsy. there
are lots of "medications" SAY they will treat dropsy, but they dont. Ingrid
