I want to install an overflow in my tank, i will cut and silicone the
glass for the box, now a question i can drain the tank to silicone the
box in place, but how long do i have to wait to replace the water? can i
start replacing the water after a couple of hours or do i have to wait a

*I* would wait a few days, but anecdotal evidence suggests that once
the vinegar odor is gone, you can use it. Silicone will cure when
wet. Myself, I don't risk it. I wait 8-10 hours before immersing
silicone.

I would strongly recommmend waiting 48 hours. You want that
thing to hold and never leak, after all.

Remember to clean the area that the new silicone will be located, with
denatured alcohol. and if there is any calcium buildup, you can use acid to
remove that, then the alcohol.
