View Full Version : black background material

I am looking for some black stick on background to the back of my
tank. I used it a few years ago but cant find it. I am in So Cal. It
had a peel away paper type backing and then you would lay it on the
outside back of the tank. it was not the kind that you wet the back
and lay it on it and squeeze the air pockets out. Any idea of the name
and where I can purchase it?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with that product, but here's an alternate:

Buy a small can of black latex paint. Paint the back of the tank, and
let dry for several days before filling with water. The paint can be
scraped off with a razor blade. I've done this several times. Blue
looks nice, too.

If you don't have the tank filled, the easiest way is to simply spray paint
the back of the tank. You don't have to worry about the background ever
coming loose or getting water spots between the tank and background. If it's
already filled, you can get black contact paper at most home or hardware
stores.

I left out...... paint the outside of the back of the tank. That way you see
the black through the glass but the water never comes in contact with the
paint. You can fill it within 30 minutes once the spray paint has dried.

It's called vinyl. Call any local sign company (that makes banners),
they'll have some.

I used cloroplast for mine, which was very easy. It is
sign material like you see on the side of the road
(relatively disposable stuff). Pretty cheap, and looks like
corrogated cardboard but is plastic-based.

Get a black or dark green garbage bin liner and tape to the back of the
outside of your tank. Easy to remove and no work involved. Slit down the
side they fold out to about 2ft x 6ft.
