What if I collect sand carmel beach in Montrery, CA ( about 2 hours drive in
south from San Francisco)? It's very fine grain and white sand even tough I
don't know what it was made from.
I'd like to use it to set up 10G refusium in which there is no fish and live
rock.

Thank you

Check local laws! You could be arrested for taking the sand!

That said, I'd boil and\or wash the sand before use. Otherwise,
sounds great to me. Wish it wasn't a 16-hour drive, or I'd get some
too.

I don't know the legal end of it but.......the sand on the beach is not Live
Sand. I would think you should go out off shore at least behind the breaker
line and collect the sand from the bottom, that would be live sand. The best
place would be from the foot of a reef. Don't boil it as that would kill
the critters you want. You could rinse it with your water mix. This could be
a good excuse for a water change. New water in the tank, old water to rinse.
Then as a test set up a small tank with the collected sand and a sacrofial
fish. If he lives all is ok if not minor loss. That's why they call it an
experiment.
