Some say it's nature, other say it's your water. Same thing happened to one
of mine. It's pure white now and still doing fine a year later. I've also
got two young ones who never turned "gold", except one has orange eye brows
and lips. (Must be a female. :) )

They do that, sometimes.

the decolor process is to lose the black and become gold, then lose
the gold and become white. Not all fish complete, or even start the
process, the genetics are complicated. They will be fine, just white.

My oldest goldfish, Gracie, started as a fairly well-decorated
calico, but gradually turned all gold. Then about a year ago,
she started getting back some white patches.
But lately, in the past couple of months, she's started to redevelop
some black markings here and there. Still nothing like she was
as a youngster, but it's nice to see some color returning.

I have no proof of cause/effect, but one thing did coincide:
I stopped feeding Spectrum GF food, and switched to 100% ProGold
diet. Spectrum contains "color enhancers" which I've always
suspected are just beta carotene. (That's the stuff that makes
carrots orange, and if you eat too many carrots, you turn
orange yourself.)

NB: I get no money from ProGold or Goldfish Connection.
Or anyplace else, for that matter.
