View Full Version : Cloudy Water

I still dont have any fish in my aquarium! I am a fussy ****, and keep
making changes.
Anyway, the aquarium is now setup the way I like, and I have filled with tap
water and de-chlorinated. It has been sitting with filters on for maybe 5
hours now.
The water has a misty cloud through it, not sure why is I dont think any
bacteria or filteration could have kicked in - no rotten food in the tank,
and as I said no fish yet.
I have done three 100% water changes in the last 2 weeks (changed substrate
twice!!!), and both previous water changes resulted in crystal clear water.
Any ideas?

just leave the tank alone. Do not do 100% water changes, Only 20%. What
you are haveing now is what they call bacteria blooming. Just give the tank
time to cycle. Goto http://www.aquariumfish.net for more info.

What could be causing the bacteria? Not sure as I have no fish yet. I
presume my tap water brought the bacteria into the tank?

The water pulling "dust" out of the filter media is causing the cloud. Let
the tank & stuff
do their things, and the cloud will get picked up by the filter.

Read up on cycling the tank before you add fish. 20% water changes should
be sufficient
once the fish are in the tank. Till then, I wouldn't change the water, no
need to....

If you can get hold of a bucket of daphnia from a local pond, that's about
the best cloudy water conditioning system I know of. And the new fish will
enjoy them!

How can he have "blooming?" He has no fish in the tank.

i have a 20gal tank for 2 weeks now and it took about 4-5 days for the water
to clear with filter on.
the PH 7.0 balance powder i got from the store helped a bit
the guys at the store told me it depends on the tab water in your region.
some area have hard water and you would need some chemicals to balance the
ph to get that crystal clear water.
perhaps give it a few days.
