conch died

any idea why my conch snail died, had perfect water conditions as far as i
know. no traceable nitrates. it was upside down, and i saw it right itself
the first time i put it in the tank. itoved about 3 inches, buried itself
in the sand, the next day it had moved a little by climbing over a rock back
into the substrate, then the next day it was upside down no loger alive.

water params were;
nitrate 0
temp 79
alkalinity bringing back up to 9dkh, was low
calcium high at near 600ppm
salinity near 1.026
ph-good
