Sure, obviously there are security issues. If you're that
paranoid, don't use it for secure things, and quit whining about it,

FWIW, gmail invites require a full name (fake for all they know, who
cares) and a valid email addy. I've recieved 6 requests for invites
with spoofed addy's, no names, or both.

I agree. These opponents dont realize that every other company does this too.
I work for an ISP and I know for fact that every email is archived and sent to
offsite storage. There are just too many subpoenas for sent emails in divorce
proceedings and such.

If you do not see the 'Invite a friend to join Gmail!' link in your inbox it
means:

a.. You have used all of your invitations or you have not been granted
invitations
b.. We are not distributing more invitations
c.. We will not be able to give you more invitations, even if you ask
nicely or offer to tattoo Gmail on some part of your body (You'd be amazed
at what people will offer for a Gmail invitation.)

After I had the account up and running for about a week they just appeared
as a link in the gmail "mail center". I just logged in after setting it up
about a week prior to that and they were there.
