View Full Version : HELP! Velvet in my tank!

I have what appears to be velvet in my 30 gallon aquarium. The fish look
like they are dusted with rust and have a reddish-brown sheen when I shine a
flashlight on them. Water parameters are fine and I believe it came from a
fish I recently bought from the pet store.

The only treatments I've read about are sal****er dips and copper.
I was thinking I could treat the entire tank with marine salt (raise
salinity by alot) as these are all brackish fish but I'm not sure if that
would work? Should I use copper as well? Would this hurt a black-fin shark
(AKA white tip shark)?

I need some advice!!! (I know I should have quarantined the new ones, but I
don't have a second tank)
Thanks.

if you catch this early enough you can treat with Quck Cure or similar ich
medication however if it is established then from my experience the salt dip
is the answer. It completely strips the slime coat off the fish.
Unfortunately I made the same mistake you did at one time and it cost me
some very nice cichlids. Out of 6 only one survived.
