I have a devils Hand coral which is losing fingers. They seem to be tearing
away. Several have fallen to the floor of the tank. I have not removed them
because they are still living. Is this normal? could my fish be nipping away
at it? I haven't caught anyone nipping at it. This has been going on for a
couple of months. This does not seem to be bothering the coral itself.

Some corals reproduce in this way. If the parent looks fine (other than the
fingers dropping), and the daughters seem to be living, I wouldn't worry too
much.

Mount those daughters on something and trade 'em! :)

Its about 4"tall and 4" round. Base is about 2" dia. The pieces have not
died. Should I plant them in the substrate or let them find their own way?

I don't think that they can move on their own. You should place them at
a suitable site with the base touching a rock and they should attach.

Hi Gerard,

Mine has been doing that for the past 2 months, and I've
already shared 6 frags with others. Here are a couple of
images.

Parent:

Frags:

Usually, current or fish will move the frags to a new
location, and they will affix on their own, or you can take
those in for store credit at your LFS or trade frags with
other reefers in your area.

Marc
