OK, I finally got round to trying to kill off some of the everspreading tuft
algae. I bleached my ornaments, and the algae, went from very dark green to
very pale green. Hence I can conclude it's dead! now the problem is how to
remove it. I started to scrub it with a wire brush but it's damaging the
ornaments. And I'm loath to but it back in the tank when there could be a
trace of chlorine left. Any ideaso r is it buy new ornaments time?

use full strength bleach. The algae will melt right off, a toothbrush can
help in the stubborn crevices. Then if you are worried about chlorine, just
put the ornaments in a bucket with some water and load it up with chlorine
removers and let it sit for a few minutes.
