Has anyone got a graph of switching speed v's flow rate for a scwd or
give me a rough idea of the switching speed at 1000lph (250gph) and
1500lph (400gph) .

I don't have a graph, but the average seems to stay near 7 - 9 seconds per side.
I'm running mine at about 400gph in my 29g's closed loop (Mag 5).

I'm about to add a sump to my tank and am trying to decide whether to
put a SCWD or a SeaSwirl on the return. The SCWD is cheaper ;-) but I
wonder if it's as effective in creating water currents?

I've got no complaints about the SCWD. I had it on my return, but later moved it to a
closed loop so it would be even more productive.
It really depends on the flow / head pressure of the return pump.
