View Full Version : red bloody dots and streaks on white shubunkin

November 28th 04, 10:24 AM
hi guys
Today i noticed that my shubunkin has red bloody dots on her body, mostly at
the base of her fins. I did a 40% water change, cleaned out the filter media
and added 0.03% salt to the tank. She is 4 years old and this is her first
ever problem. Last night the filter malfunctioned and she swam past it a few
times, Could she have been burnt while touching the heater? I threw the
stupid heater away and ordered a better one.
Is this a reaction to burning on the heater or is it a reaction to
parasites?
Have i done the right thing so far? Is here anything else i can do to help
her. She dart around occasionally, but that is usually her....
Hope someone can help
TIA

Check water parameters including ammonia, nitrites, nitrates, pH and temperature.

The blood dots (and streak ni one fin) seemed to have turned from a blood
red into a sort of washed out orangy red. I was told that it could be a
bacterial infection, but also thought it could have been costia. All the
fish are dartin except when they see me then they calm down. I have ordered
a new heater and should have it by friday. Is there anything that i should
do in the meantime to help her. I have a 200L tank and cant be heated till
friday.

sorry, didnt see the dots and STREAKS..Check water parameters including ammonia,
nitrites, nitrates, pH and temperature. then start doing water changes, something is
wrong with the water. Add 1 teaspoon of salt per 5 gallons. This can be increased to
3 teas. per 5 over a few days. Use rock salt with no additives.

Thankyou ingrid
Have been doing big water changes. The red blood spots have changed colour
to an orange red. Fish are still darting around like i put cafeen into the
water.
I think i found out what was the problem (what caused it)
The frozen bloodworms i got from the LFS looks like they were thawed out and
refrozen before they were sold to me. I AM SO UPSET as i have heard that it
can happen. I thought those morons would have more brains than that.
Would this be it?
:-(

I dont know, but bloodworms contribute a lot of waste if the fish dont get them all.
