View Full Version : Source of KNO3, K2SO4?

Hello everyone,

I'm working on getting my algae under control, but have been
unable to find a source of KNO3 and K2SO4. I've heard that plant
fertilizers have these chemicals, but often contain other things that
make fishkeepers nervous. I checked the local science supply store but
they told me they couldn't order them. I'm a bit worried that lab-grade
chemicals might be too expensive anyhow (ie, ScienceLab.com wants $77
for it's cheapest K2SO4!)

Are there some easy sources for these two chemicals?

Thanks a ton! These prices are much better than the lab-grade stuff I
could find elsewhere in my area.

www.gregwatson.com

I've never heard of any "other" things in these products causing any
issue to date and I've been using them for a decade and have used
various supplies.

Oh, ok. I've always heard thrown around that normal plat fertilizer can
harm fishes. I seem to recall Jim Brown saying this once, during a thread on
gardening fertilizers, but I can't locate it in the archives. Hmmm, sad
thing, my memory going south at only 22! ::-)

At any rate, if I'm wrong all the better. There's an Agway just up the
street with all kinds of fertilizers.

Thanks Tom!

Well general terrestrial ferts for gardens etc will harm the fish and
cause algae, they have NH4, ammonium in there. what he was liking
suggesting.

It must be NH4 and urea free.
They do not add this to KH2PO4, Fleet enema, K2SO4, KNO3 etc.

Grants stump remover will do the trick for KNO3.

Great - thanks again Bill, Rick, Rob, and Tom!

I've got stuff on order and will do a blackout as soon as the stuff gets
here.
