Well, Petco didn't have anything but flat glass, and the PetsMart in my
end of town dodn't either. But the PetsMart on the other end of town
had a 12" incandescent hood for (not $12-$14) $9.99. I'm happy. I may
eventually get a hinged piece of glass, but this'll do till after the
holidays.
Thanks to all for your help and suggestions.

Lucky you! Only $10.00. = )~
Also, here's a trick for ya.
Head down to the local hardware store.
Ask them to cut a piece of glass 12" x 6" and make sure they take an emory
cloth and buff the edges down smooth for you.
It's VERY cheap at my local shop.
Just a couple/few bucks...no biggy. Just make sure they use that emory cloth on
the edges.
You're really going to need a glass lid if you grab that strip light. A bit
dangerous to use without something in between it and the water's surface.

Not needed - the aquarium came with a solid glass cover. However, I was
told today by an employee at Petco that two places in town cary hinges
for glass lids. And I know how to cut glass. That's my next step :-).

Oh good. I had thought your's didn't come with a glass lid.
My LFS also has the hinges and said I could just come and get one if I wanted
it. That was nice. (I have been a loyal customer for the past 16 yrs though). =
)
Cutting glass never went well for me....think I'll run to the hardware store
for that, hehe.
