Hi,
New to forum. I've got a big problem with red slime algae outbreak in my 45
gal. fish, invert., live rock tank. Water quality is ok. Lighting is MH.
Filter is pleum? with power heads for circulation. Any suggestions greatly
apprecieated. Thanks in advance.

I've not found that an increase in current flow helps all that much with red
algae. I have a homemade wavemaker, and even with that much current flow, I
still get red algae build up from time to time. I believe that nutrient control
in the tank is the only viable solution to red algae control, and that only
after you've already gotten rid of most of it using water changes, tank
cleanings, and/or red slim remover. I've been told that refugiums with lots of
macroalgae to burn up the nutrients along with ocassional harvesting works best.

Actually good current help alot but also need efficient Proteien Skimmer. So
the combo of these two item will normally fix 80% of algae problem. The rest
normally cause by bad water source or overfeeding / light. The point of
having good water current is to move any nutrient flowing / floating etc...
around your tank. With the help of Protien Skimmer [efficient] to take it
out. Strong water current will not do much good if it keep floating around
in your tank and no mean of taking out. Eventually it will feed something or
hook on something and grow. Weak current do not effectively move thing and
my not reach your protein skimmer.

I have a protein skimmer, a wave maker, and RO. What more can I do, in that
regard?

Guess what. I just left mine. It was real bad! This week it went away on
it's own! I just did some sweeping of the sand. It went away on it's own.
The tank is 6 weeks old and doing amazing.

Go to your local fish store and get CHEMI-CLEAN. It will get rid of the red
slime
