View Full Version : Doomed silver mollie

I have had several experiences with pregnant livebearers, who,
instead of giving birth, croaked. As I was anticipating blessed
events, they never delivered, but just became more bloated and then
expired. This happened twice, with guppies, and now, I have a silver
mollie which I think has been expecting for way too long. Scales are
not standing out which suggested (or used to) dropsy. She is still
active and eating, but I am beginning to think I better prepare for a
funeral, rather than fixing up the nursery :))

Any ideas as to cause, or treatment??

Thanks

How long is too long?

One possibility is that, since mollies can store sperm and deliver
successive batches of fry in the absence of a male, she has already had one
lot and is on the way with another (the babies having either ended up as
lunch and/or gone into hiding in the undergrowth).

Sad to hear that. I just found my very pregnant guppy at the bottom of the
tank this morning. I noticed that she had been very sluggish and inactive
for the last few days. I have no idea why she died - water conditions and
temp are fine.
