Please help. I have a system that I bought from Home Depot about a year ago
and just recently the little overflow (hole near the spout) started spitting
out water whenever I get some water. Is this a sign of a filter going bad?
Do I have to replace it? What other possibilities could there be other than
the filter/membrane dirty? Please help. Thanks.

I don't know whether that indicates cartridges/membrane needing changed or
just a leaky fitting, but a year sounds like a good ballpark range to do
replacements. A simple TDS meter can be had for $20 and will tell you for
certain the quality water your unit is producing.

As Toni stated.
Most likely the fitting / joint may need to be reseal with teftlong tap or
replace it with a new part.
