I am just starting a fishtank haven't had one in years and missed my old one. I was looking for it's first fish and picked up a placostomus (more than likley spelled wrong) a betta and then i was what at the pet shop was called an african dragon fish. Well it looks very prehistoric and awsome so i took them all home and got them in the tank. I did some reasearch on the dragon and kept comming up with some other fish finally after reading some forums found out it was a violet goby Everything i read on them says that there brackish fish and not freshwater like i was told... Will the beta and the placostomus do well in a brackish enviroment? I have no clue here and didn't realise what i had picked up obviously. So far the fish seam to be fine all together though. I just don't want the goby to die as i said he's awsome.

honestly, plecos dont like that much salt and neither would the betta. your
gonna have to move the betta and pleco to another tank, and your gonna need
a big tank for the violet goby. here is a good article on brackish tanks.

Well thank you very much for that link. It helped me understand the whole brackish water thing more than most sites i found. the page said that alot of brackish fish move to the ocean does that mean that ultimatly i would have to build a full sal****er aquarium one day?
