Low tech way to keep goldfish

After more than 7 years keeping goldfish, it all comes down to this: water
change and sponge filters.

You can put two goldfish in a 20 gallon long tank plus a Marineland
powersponge filter (or a air driven large sponge). Cheange 50% water per
week (use the snake for water change, easy task) and you are all set. Forget
about all the stuffs pet stores trying to sell you to make them rich.

Sponge filters work very well. Have to agree.

hi....you could probably get away with less water changes for
goldfish....but as already mentioned the lfs like you to spend money
even when its not necessary.

people often think that goldfish only grow a couple of inches or
so.....would be interested to find out how big people have actually
seen them..:)

ive seen goldfish at 12 " - 16", growing in a 2 acre carp pond (for
fishing) they fed off the floating pellets the wild bred carp wouldnt
touch and avoided the hook baits.

Was very scary, sat fishing and seeing theses 12" orange things
glisten past.

I agree on the fish store gouging too, they once tried to sell me an
external power filter for a guppy breeding tank. bless 'em

True! I can get away with less water change. But consider there are 5 big
goldfish in a 40 gallon tank.
