I am running a 50 gallon tank with 13 African Cichlids. I have two filters
attached to it, a eheim 2222 pro and eheim 2213. I've decided to chuck the
2213 and get the 2227 wet dry. I figure I'd have less maintenance and still
have both biological and mechancial filtering. The problem is that Eheim's
filter material is about a third pricier than Seachems matrix. They both
claim to do the same thing and look very similar. Will I be making a mistake
by going with the Seachem. I know Eheim recommends their own be used
exclusively, but I figure they're just saying that so you buy their product.

I've used Eheim canisters in the recent past and it was a nightmare trying
to find media for it locally. I decided to use Hagen Fluval media, which
for the most part worked quite well. And yes, although Eheim filters are
very good, like every other manufacturer, Hagen included, they want you to
use their own media. Makes sense to me. Why would Hagen want you to buy
Eheim media? :)
