I understand tanks are made out of "Acrylic" but what kind? As I search for
"Acrylic" plastic I find "Lexan, Polycarbonate, Polystyrene, PPE, PET, ",
and two dozen other names I don't understand.
Which one???

Lexan is polycarbonate. It is harder material, but more
prone to turn yellow with age.
AcryLite GP is also hard, and tends to stay clear and would
make good tank material. I use AcryLite FF for sump
construction.

Hey Marc-
On (nearly) the same topic; I chickened out on cutting my own acrylic
for a sump. I found a local plastics company that cut the pieces for
me. They declined to put it together, however. I have the Weld-On on
order. The box is all taped together and I can't wait to get started.
Can you give me some pointers on how to keep the pieces square as you
assemble the box?
Thanks in Advance!

I use plastic speed squares, with the corner cut off. That
way you can make sure the joints are square, without having
the weld-on weep under the speed square.
I don't use tape when I assemble the pieces, gluing one
piece at a time.

What size acrylic did you buy? Is this a display tank or
sump?
Weld-On #4 with a needle tip applicator.
You need to figure out your measurements, then figure out
what each piece needs to be so that once they fit together
your measurements still match.
