View Full Version : How much light for plantless tank?
Hi
How much light (how many hours) should there be if ur GF tank doesn't
have any real plants? And about elodias, I've seen them being kept in
dark buckets in water for days and they were green as ever and grew
longer. So i was wondering if elodias need light at all or what?

I'd say 10-12 hours. Corrections welcomed.
Can't help you with the other question, sorry.

Consider that if you don't have live plants, all the fish waste in the water
(aka nutrients) will feed algae instead. I would think that 12 hours of
light in a plantless tank would get green pretty quickly. I run my lights
for about 12 hours a day in planted tanks and still get quite a bit of
algae, especially near the lights.
