OK, a dumb question - I have read that is a good thing to feed goldfish peas
on occasion. I assume these are green garden peas. How do you prepare them
for gf? Cooked or raw? Skinned or not? Whole or broken up? My gf aren't
large (2 inches or so) and have no health problems that I know of - should I
give them peas once a week or so?

When you eat peas, your fish can eat some peas. Then there is no extra
step involved for you. Otherwise, you can put a couple in some warm
tapwater and let them defrost for a couple minutes. Knick the shell,
pop the peas out. You will see two halves. If that is still too big,
just cut them to bite size pieces.

I think peas are gross and I think my fish might agree. They'll eat
them, because they'll eat anythign I drop in the tank, but not as
ravenously as other things.
When I feed them bloodworms its like they think I'm never going to feed
them again. The little one t hrashes wildly in an attempt to get at
them, he usually opens his mouth too soon and ends up pushing it away
from him. it's cute :)

Goldfish, like people, seem to have food preferences. I've had some
that adore nectarines and banannas, and others that wouldn't eat it at
all.

Now worms...
that is the universal fish treat!

I defrost frozen peas, pop them out of the "skin" (not the pod but the
actual skin they are in) and mash them up with a teaspoon. I then drop the
mash in the water with the teaspoon and my fish actually eat from the spoon,
its very cute, and they spend ages chasing all the bits around, there is
never any left over.

Do bananas have the same anti-constipation effect on goldfish as peas?

John, I don't know. I just know that some GF like it, and some don't.
What I do know is it's a good source of potassium, a necessary mineral
for living beings. ;-)

John, what did the GF make of the banana treat?

they are good for "cleaning out" a GF because they are not very digestible and most
people put a single crystal of epsom salts into the pea to help;.
cooked and shelled or they could get stuck in the throat.

Well, they ate it (of course they would probably eat anything I put in
there, including my fingers if they could).
I hope it was good for them.
