Male Goldfish are good to spawn at a year old, while females may spawn at
one year it is best to keep them until they are two years old before trying
to spawn them. This time period allows for large egg production and is less
stressful on a larger fish.

Yeah, id agree on about 1 - 1.5 years.
My fish are kept in a pond however and it is very difficult to stop
them spawning, however i do agree that females shoulndt spawn til they
are older, ive seen too many fish be fired from the pond by the
amerous carp during spawning, often finding the young fish on the
gravel the next day.

Last spring, when the fish got going, my wife spent one morning tossing fish
into the pond, after they continuelly hurled themselves up on to the lawn.
