Have any of you had (or have) any of these? Very skitish little guy,
but I noticed that he changes color (at least some). I have a few golf
balls in the tank and when he's on one cleaning it, he gets very light
colored (usually pretty dark). Just thought I'd share.

Hillstream loaches / horsefaced loaches are peaceful and nice to have in a
tank. I had several a few years back. They seem to do much better in a tank
with fine sand or rounded pebbles on the bottom. Sharp gravel or rocks can
easily damage their mouths. They like to sift fine sand through their mouth
to find food. One of their favorites if bloodworms (mosquito larvae). They
also don't like it too warm, 70-76F is best for them.

I'm not being pedantic here but Bloodworms are actually the larvae of Gnats
I believe. ;)

I was wrong to say they are mosquito larvae. The fish food commonly sold as
"Bloodworms" are larvae of midges from the family Chironomidae. But who's
counting?

Horsehead loaches ( Acatopsis choirorhynchus) are fond of them, whatever
term their keeper uses for "bloodworms".

Hehe! I knew they weren't mozzie and even I got it wrong - I don't think
Midges and Gnats are the same thing, not even here in Oz ;)

All the best
