What small fish is the best food source for North American native fish (like
bass, bluegill, crappie) etc? I was thinking shiners, but did some
research, and apparently they are not. Perhaps some sort of chub?

Thanks

I would recommend Crayfish. Bass go absolutely nuts for small crays.

HI, I run a bait and tackle shop in Central Wisconsin and know for a fact
that bass LOVE Medium Golden Shiners. I make a living selling them to
fishermen, about 2,000 a week.

The 2 pound 14" bluegills in my tank thrive on crappie minnows (small
fatheads).

The 28" Tiger Muskie prefers Large & Jumbo Golden Shiners over Suckers and
the Perch in the tank.

I have added Rosie Reds for color, but the Gills don't seem to care for
them.

Chubs would work OK too, about 2" to 3" long.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask.
