Tonight my Peppermint Shrmip released her babies in my tank.
If you'd like to see the pictures of these little guys,
please check out the latest entry in my log.

Yes, I'm being a bit lazy tonight, but I posted it on Reef
Central and my club's message board, plus my log. So click
on the link and enjoy.

Yah, quite frequent event. I have three species of Lysmata shrimp
and they release larvae regularly almost every week...
Shrimps are very nice plankton creating addition to the reef tank!
Especially hermaphroditic Lysmata species: it is sufficient to have
two of each kind and you are guaranteed to have a spawning pair.

Nice pictures Marc!

Thanks guys. I put them on a webpage today, along with the
steps I used to take the pictures.

Marc;
Were these Lysmata Wurdemanni (not sure of the spelling)?

I know what you mean - out of three Lysmata species I have
in my tank the peppermints are the most shy ones.
They practically venture out to hunt ONLY during night.

Keep the camera near the tank - in 2 weeks from now
you will have the second chance to catch it doing the same ;-)

Since I have at least 6 Peppermints in the tank, it could
happen again. This is the third time I've happened upon the
new babies in less than 2 weeks.

But timing is everything.

Do these things survive in the tank without them becoming a meal???

"'Who knows for certain? Who shall here declare it?
Whence was it born, whence came creation?
The gods are later than this world's formation;
Who then can know the origins of the world?
None knows whence creation arose;
And whether he has or has not made it;
He who surveys it from the lofty skies.
Only he knows-or perhaps he knows not.'
And this is tempered by another, perhaps still greater:
That men are not the dreams of the gods but that the gods are the
dreams of men."

The Rig Veda

No way. Next morning it is usually all gone.
