Cleaning filter box

Hi Everyone,
How often are you supposed to clean out the filter cartridge box? My
filters need to be changed about every 3-4 weeks, but every time i clean
out the box my water gets cloudy. Otherwise my 2 comets are fine. 2-10"
comets in a 29 gal. tank. one is 5 years old (Blaze) and the other one
(Spike) is 2. Both about 10 inches long with tail. I also do my water
changes every week.

Don't clean the entire filter media, clean a bit one week and a bit another.
I only ever clean my filters when the intake/outtake slow down.

2 x 10" goldfish in a 29? You're overstocked!
