I have an established tank thats been running for over a year. My tank is 75
Gal with 25 lbs of LR.
I just purchased 25 lbs of cured rock from Ebay. My question is this: Can i
just add the rock, or is there something I nee to do before adding it, if so
what?
Thanks

IMO, any rock that has been out of the water for an extended period
of time will have die off, and therefore, may result in a mini-cycle.
To be safe, I would fill a tub with water and toss in a powerhead or
airstone for at LEAST a few days.

Will you be picking up the rock or will it be shipped to you? In other
words how long will it be out of water?

The rock was shipped to me, to was sent on monday and I received it friday.
It was packed in soacked newspapers and wraped in plastic bags. The rock has
a slight wet / musty smell to it. What should i do?

Sounds like good, healthy live rock. However, it's been out of the
water for several days. I would re-cure it, no question.

I agree, Re-cure the rock. There's considerable die off.

Hmmm... "shipped, cured live rock." I've always wondered about that
stuff. The whole reason for curing is because it is has been out of
water for a period of time which means die-off. This is the reason you
cure a fresh out of the ocean shipment also. It has been out of water.
And the musty smell is a tell-tale sign of dead material.
Definitely cure it or you will poison your system. Especially with 25
pounds of rock.

I placed the new LR in a tub and now in the process of Curing it. IM glad I
did, I took an ammonia sample to see the base level, It spiked to 4.0. Now
its the waiting game.
I have one more question for the curing, I read where it is recommended a
%100 change weekly until ammonia levels are back to zero, Is this a good
rule of thought or should I wait longer before my changes?

I know ppl who just ignore the tub for a couple weeks. Myself, I
believe this can kill some organisms on the rocks that may be
desireable. I do water changes every few days of about 25%. Gets
spendy though.
