My LFS has a very nice looking 70 gal Oceanic system
(stand/tank/cover/light) at a reasonable price.

Does anyone have any opinion on this brand (good or bad)?

Thanks!

oceanic is the only brand to consider. All other aquariums are junk in
comparison ;o)

The quality of the Oceanic tanks and stands seems better to me than any other
glass tank systems that I have seen. When used Oceanic systems come up for sale
they do command a premium. There have been a few squawks about their overflow
system on the tanks so equipped. And their lighting is rather conventional. If you
are planning some extensive planting and need strong lighting, then you can't
assume that you will be able to get it from just any old Oceanic hood. They also
make tanks, at significant premium, with the extra clear Starfire glass. In
summary I can only say that if you found an Oceanic system that has the features
you seek at a reasonable price, then it is certainly a safe buy.

To upgrade Oceanic lighting, you can get CF strip lights in twin and
triple configurations from All-Glass (who owns Oceanic). I did find
their lights expensive though. Oceanics are built like tanks. Some use
a very large crossbrace which I find annoying, and I've cracked their
glass covers more than once from using high power lighting, so that's
something to be aware of. Providing extra ventilation under high watt
light covers is a consideration for any tank though, not something unique
to Oceanic, though maybe something in the design of that particular
Oceanic made it more susceptible to this. Nice tanks.

Oceanic was top of the line for many years. As of now..I don't really know if
there is any line above their quality, not including those real expensive, made
to order types (forgot the name).
However, several yrs back AllGlass bought out Oceanic, but promised to keep to
their original standerds. I've not heard a bad word about them since the buy
out, so they're probably keeping up with the quality. From the looks of the
tanks, the glass is still thicker (one of Oceanic's trade marks was better
quality glass) and framing is still lovely and fancy.
I'm not liking the new cube styles though.
Fish gotta swim, ya know. Give me a rectangle tank any day!
