Hi all,

I have 2 shubunkins, 2 common goldfish, and 1 black moor. I have had them
for several months now and all are growing rapidly except for the black
moor. He has grown quite a lot since I got him, but not at the rate that
the others have. At first I didn't think he was getting enough to eat, so I
started putting some sinking pellets in along with the flake food. He likes
to eat only off the bottom it seems. He now seems to be eating enough to
eat. Is it normal for the Black Moors to grow at a slower rate than other
goldfish? Thanks, Sarah

P.S. There are 5 fish in a 45 gallon tank.

Hi Sarah, Your black moor probably really should not be in the same
tank with your other fish. Shubunkins and commons grow quite large and
are much better swimmers not to mention moors dont see as well due to
their telescope eyes. He probably doesnt get enough food compared to
the others. In the long run as your fish grow I believe you will find
your tank is too small for the number of fish you have. Is there any
possibility of getting a second tank for your moor? You could get a
twenty gallon and another fancy goldie to be a buddy for him.

I have blackmores with comets and shubunkins....
To ensure the blackmores get a good feed ...I distract the others first with
a feed of flakes on the surface ...of course they go for them...meanwhile I
then feed the backmores with sinking pellets.
They manage no problem and growing.

That's pretty much what I have been doing also. I am wondering though, when
they are full grown, are the moors as big as the others? Thanks, Sarah

No, the moor will not get as long, but it will get very chunky. I believe
the moors do grow quite a bit slower than the comets. I have two moors
which I also thought were growing a little slow, but when I revisit the pet
store I realize they are considerably bigger than when I bought them. It's
just the comets grow soooo fast. My shubunkins seem to grow slower than the
comets, but still noticeably faster than the moors. HTH

My moor has one eye and gets well fed. Charlie has learnt to be very quick
at feeding time and manages to get a good feed. My moor also grew slow...but
at least he gets food!

I have 11 black moors. They will only grow to around 8 inches - possibly
slightly
larger. Common and shubunkins will get much bigger.
