Well anyone that has AOL just got a notice saying that our access to these
newsgroups will be cut off in "early 05".
So if any of us from AOL just up and disappear....you know what happened. = /
Only AOL knows how long we still have, and they aren't telling.

While AOL may not be offering the groups any more, that shouldn't stop
you from using some third party provider (Giganews, Google, etc) for
your news access. Unless AOL are going to be serious buttheads about it.

It's been a while since I messed with that stuff, and I've never had AOL,
but couldn't you just get a regular news agent like Free Agent and still be
participating here?

Another reason not to use AOL ;)

news.individual.net is a free usenet server. Just sign up for a username
& password. The downside is that it doesn't carry binaries which means
no access to alt.binaries.aquaria.

Instructions can be found here on how to sign up:

http://www.individual.net

Now all you have to do is to pick a newsreader.

Indeed, and one that has been running around since I first went to
work for AOL in 94.

TYNK.... how were you notified? Pop-up or email? If it is an official
AOL email it will have a BLUE envelope icon.

I just checked a number of AOL accounts and do not have any indication
of that.

Well I'll be a sock puppet...

"BetaNews is reporting that AOL is about to terminate Usenet access
for its users."

Follow up...apparently it's NOT a hoax!
