3 or 4 baby platys have survived for about 10 days now in my community tank.
They are still quite small (about 1/2 cm) & beige. When do they start to
show their colours? I think they're too big to be eaten now (I hope!) and
as these are my first ones I'm curious about how they will mature.
TIA!

.. At around 2 to 3 weeks, they show what colour they will be, but it takes
longer for it to develop fully. Their fins are black from birth if they are
going to have black fins like my redwag platies. Their bodies are a pale
pink quite quickly. My sunset platies look white/beige at birth and pale
yellow quickly, but the orange/red tail colours take longer. At 4 weeks they
will be around half/three quarters of an inch and sometimes sexable at 6
weeks onwards, although my first platy fry didn't develop till 10/11 weeks.

Thanks Mary. Mine are all little mongrels, so it will be anybody's guess as
to what they look like. The parents were from the "mixed" platy tank.
