I'm an American living in Germany and I'm looking to start working
with acrylic for a new marine aquarium. In the U.S. I can readily get
a acrylic solvent called Weld-On 3 from the company IPS. Unfortunatly
for me living in Germany IPS doesn't sell their products here. I've
made inquiries directly to R=F6hm makers of Plexiglas for a solvent with
no luck. I#ve also made inquiries to Henkel makers of Loctite also
with little luck.
There has to be a product available here in Europe that can weld
Plexiglas (acrylic). Just a note what I'm looking for is not a glue or
silicon. Weld-On 3 is a bonding solvent that chemically joins bonded
pieces together as one.
Any help would be appreciated.

I also live in Europe and I have the same problem. I live in Croatia and in
acrylic stores I can buy glue that they make. It is made of methylene
cloride with chips of acrylic melted in. My problem is that this glue is too
thick. If there was less acrylic melted in this glue it would be as good as
weld on 3.
If you can find sorce for methylene cloride in Europe please post it here.

I've gotten yesterday a reply from an email that I sent to R=F6hm GmbH
(makers of Plexiglas) about their product ACRIFIX. On their website
they refer to this as an adhesive and not a bonding solvent. However a
closer look at the website I found that certain formulas contain
(dichloromethane) the same bonding compound found in IPS Weld-On. You
can find the product website at:
http://www.plexiglas.de/en/plexiglas?content=3D/en/plexiglas/products/overv=
iew/ancill
When looking into the technical information only there is it
mentioned that ACRIFIX is a bonding solvent. Now I know I found the
right product. Here's a link to the technical information:
http://www.plexiglas.de/en/plexiglas?content=3D/en/plexiglas/_download/down=
load/acrifix.html
You can find ACRIFIX available at distributors of Plexiglas
worldwide. The only problem that I found is that this product is not
aimed for the consumer market, you have to order a rather large
quantity of the product. Ex. 5 x 1.2 kg. But perhaps a distributor
might be willing to sell smaller quantities to consumers.
Thanks Everyone for their posts!!
