Hi, I want to set up a small plastic box filter in a 5 gallon quarantine
tank. I don't have the box to it anymore. What goes in the bottom, the
carbon or the filter floss? It's been a while since I used one of these and
I can't remember. Thanks, Sarah

Sarah,

The charcoal goes on the bottom with the floss on top so that the floss can
filter the particulate from the water before it passes over the charcoal.

The directions for mine say to put a small layer of floss on the chamber
floor (about 1cm) then about 2cm of washed activated carbon, then the rest
is wool. So you sandwich the carbon between, essentially, two layers of
filter wool.

It works in my filter when I use it this way.

I was confused too at the beginning, but through trial and error, some
asking the LFS and operation I can say this is a good method.

I later took the carbon out when I got my plants BTW.
