Table salt

Whats wrong with using table salt?
I know its iodised, but iodine is needed in low quantities even by fish,
isn't it?

Table Salt is usually mixed with some kind of "anti caking" agent that
throws off the measurement of the compound. Also since most table salt is
mined rather than dehydrated from seawater there is little other "trace
elements" in it. These trace elements are beneficial to the aquarium.
Sometimes companies will even add things to table salt to make it "whiter"
and more consistent. For the price it's just as cheap to buy bulk aquarium
salt from the pet store and be secure in the knowledge that it is safe.

Nothing at all. Good table salt is perfectly acceptable, and as you noted
iodine is a required element. I have been using it for over 20 years in my
tank after it was recommended by the owner of the most respected lfs in
town.

I choose rock salt over sea salt though for pH raising reasons with the
latter ;)
