Red fins, Hole in one gill

I have 3 goldfish (3-4 yr old), and since yesterday they've been staying
together at the bottom of the tank and refused to eat. The only visible
symptoms I saw this morning were on the red fantail. Its fins, which are
normally white, have turned pinkish-red, as if they are inflamed (the blood
vessels are clearly visible).

This does not look like a fin rot, for the whole tail, from the base, has
suddenly turned red. The tips of the tail, on the other hand, has stayed
white, and right now it looks like they've caught a fungus or something. The
other fish do not show this.

However, the white telescope also has some red patches on the fins, and a 3
mm hole in one gill. This fish has probably been sick the longest, since it
normally doesn't move around much, and I never paid attention to its
behaviour.

Does anybody know what kind of disease this is? I added some antibiotics to
the tank, is there anything else I could do?

Some other info: its a 20 gallon tank, with 300 gph power filter, no gravel,
I usually change 1/3 of the water every 1-2 weeks. Several weeks ago I
introduced some new snails to the tank to control the algae.

Any help would be appreciated.

The bloody fins and patches are an internal bacterial infection. The fugus
is a secondary infection caused by the internal infection.

If you can...Find some pimafix as it will not kill off your biobugs. If you
have been adding antibiotics, keep going with these...REMEMBER antibiotics
do take a while to work....just like as in humans.

You are also overstocked by one fish and the snails in your tank....remember
the golden rule: at least 10gal per goldfish, as they produce quite a bit of
ammonia and grow large

BTW...

If you dont know what the fish has, don't treat it until you are absolutely
SURE of what it is. Using the wrong medication on a fish can be just as...if
not more fatal for the poor little fellas!

Thanks to everyone for help. The fish are still pretty much in the same
condition, and I will continue to give them antibiotics. I couldn't find
pimafix in the store, but the medicine I have is supposed to treat internal
infections.

Yes, I am aware that my tank is a little overstocked. I saw this beautiful
telescope goldfish in the store, and I could not resist :) - now it has
outgrown both of my fantails. I should probably get a bigger tank, and use
the existing one for my guppies - if I ever get around to it....
