My new FW game fish tank is up and running, I am working on the pictures and
tale.
My question is? Will a pl*co survive in 65 degree water?

My MIL had an unheated goldie tank with a common Pleco that grew to
full adult size,(around 13") and lived for about 8 years. She keeps
her house about 65F.

Chaetostoma thomsoni, Rubber nose plecos are listed as 68-73 degrees. I
know they will deal with yo to high 70s, so they probably would be oksy if
it didn't go lower. They like well oxtgenated water.
Check Planet catfish ....

Are there any other bottom feeders/algae eaters that would do well in a
coldwater goldfish tank?

How about Oto - somethings?
A,
I've heard that plecos will go after the slime coating on a Goldfish.

and yes, plecos can go after the slime coat on larger fish (and more).
There are plecos (Vampire pleco, can't recall their sci. name) which have
a reputation for it, and having seen the results first hand, it is truly
nasty. Imagine a depression of 3 sq.in. and 3/8" deep, rasped right out
of the side of a fish.

I dont have to imagine: my Chinese Algae Eater did this exact same thing to
my male Paradise fish - what a disturbing sight - yuk! I couldn't believe
the Paradise Fish just let the CAE suck on him like that in the first place,
to be honest.

I had them in our GF tank, until the GF got really big and ate them.
Somebody in the GF group suggested them - I had never heard of them before,
but now I see them all the time.
