Just cleaned out my cannister adn found a significant number of snails
happily residing therein.
Just wondering if this presents any concerns for the filter or the
fish.
I did scoup out a few for the loaches who likly have eliminated snails
from the tank

Not that I've found, and I've had snails (even shrimp) in the filter
for years. It is conceivable they find their way into the impeller,
but so far it doesn't seem to have hurt the filter any.

I've had impeller damage possibly attributable to snails in my canister,
especially with Malaysian Trumpet snails.

This is a bit off topic, but a while back I had a batch of month old
guppy fry in my tank. One morning I noticed one of the 5 survivors was
missing. I looked all around the tank for the body/carcas of the dead
guppy but couldn't find it. I then looked in the filter and found him.
(eclipse 6 system with the filter lying flat) I couldn't believe he
was in there!

I was able to scoop him out of the filter and put him back into the
tank. He survivied getting sucked up through the intake and stuck in
the filter for a day. Must have had enough water to keep him alive! I
ended up calling him "Chuck Noland" for surviving such abnormal
circumstances. :)

thank you for the responses-filter is too valuable to risk, so I'll
likely remove the snails next cleaning.

Small snails are always in the filter frames in my two Penguin 330s.
I don't recall finding any around the impeller. I suppose the come in
through the outlets. Only 2 years, so not a sure thing that there
won't be a problem. I have removed them when I clean the filters, but
only thought of their blocking the water flow.
