View Full Version : firefish breeding

February 14th 05, 04:39 AM
I have 3 firefish in a 125g (along with a strawberry basslet, 2
perculas with host anemone, a 6 line wrasse, 2 condy anemones, a
serpent star, a brittle star, a sand sifting star, a large strawberry
legs crab, and various snails and crabs.) There is about 75 lbs of LR
and a good amount of base rock for cover. I added these 3 firefish at
the same time about 2 months ago. They were schooling together nicely
when purchased. After a couple of days in the tank, two started
staying within inches of each other and the third a good distance away.
I never saw any aggressive behavior at all. They get along well with
each other. When I awoke this morning, 2 were missing. I figured they
were hiding and fed the tank to get them to come out. Only one did,
taking a few bites and then hauling butt to a large conch shell in the
back of the tank. The other has poked it's head out a few times but
that is it. They are now defending the conch should anyone get to
close. I was wondering if they are breeding. I don't know much about
it. The strawberry legs crab crawled up to the conch this evening and
emerged with slimy white stuff coming off of his legs. I fear it may
have been eggs or something if this is how they reproduce. Any body
got any ideas on what is going on?
